KRABI · THAILAND
Longtail boats, limestone cliffs, the long way around.
Day trips, beaches, longtail boats and the Andaman islands. Phi Phi, Hong Islands, Railay, Maya Bay and the quiet corners in between.
Only in Krabi
Three things you can’t do anywhere else.
Day trips, snorkelling and boat hops exist in every island destination. These three don’t. The bay, the cliffs, the spring. Each one is specific to this strip of the Andaman coast. Plan the rest of the trip around them.
After dark
Glowing Plankton Bays
Dinoflagellates only put on this show in a handful of places on earth. Puerto Rico, parts of Vietnam, here. After dusk the water lights up electric blue when something moves through it. Krabi operators kill the boat lights, drop a ladder, and you jump in.

On the cliffs
Climbing at Railay
Railay is the world capital of beach climbing. Bolted limestone routes from beginner walls to multi-pitch overhangs, all directly above turquoise water. The peninsula is reachable only by longtail boat. The routes are bolted into rock that does not exist anywhere else.

Inland
Emerald Pool & Hot Springs
A turquoise jungle spring fed from underground at one stop, naturally-warm volcanic rock pools twenty minutes away at the next. The colour of the water and the spring/spring combination is specific to this stretch of southern Thailand.

The classic day out
Start with the one that everyone books.
If you've only got one day in Krabi, start here. The Andaman day trip Krabi is built around.
The classics
Krabi's Most Popular Day Tours
Phi Phi, Hong Islands, Maya Bay, Tiger Cave. The reason most travellers come to Krabi.
By place
Pick a corner of Krabi.
Each place is its own day. Phi Phi for the famous beaches. Hong Islands for the hidden lagoons. Railay for the climbing. Ao Nang for the food and the boats.
By tour type
Or pick how you want to spend the day.
Speedboat if you want range. Longtail if you want the classic Krabi shot. Snorkelling, sunset cruises, kayaking through mangroves, glow-in-the-dark plankton swims, and the rest.
Out on the Andaman
Which day on the water?
The boats leave from the same few beaches, but the days could not be more different. Pick by how far you want to go, and how you want the day to end.
Phi Phi & Maya Bay
The islands worth the early start.
Phi Phi sits a couple of hours west across open water. Maya Bay under its ring of limestone, the flooded lagoon at Pileh, the snorkelling off Bamboo Island. The speedboats leave Ao Nang and Nopparat Thara early, and the first hour out is the quiet one before the fleet arrives.

When the light changes
Krabi's evening shift.
Sunset over Phra Nang, BBQ on a hidden beach, glowing plankton if you stay out late enough. Our three favourites for after the sun drops.
If it's the boats you came for
The longtail days.
The brightly-painted wooden boats are Krabi’s signature visual. Slower than a speedboat, but you ride lower and the cliffs feel bigger. Three longtail routes we’d put on any first-time itinerary.
When you need a break from the boats
The land days.
Temples in the limestone, jungle pools, hot springs and cooking classes in Ao Nang. The other side of Krabi, and the half-days worth saving for when your shoulders need a break from the boats.
